- **Session persistence fix** (`src/lib/auth.ts` + `src/app/api/auth/route.ts`):
|
|
- Root cause: `cookies().set()` from `next/headers` may not reliably propagate the `Set-Cookie` header to the `NextResponse` body in Next.js App Router route handlers.
|
|
- Fix: Added `response.cookies.set()` on the `NextResponse` object for login, register, and logout actions, guaranteeing the cookie is sent.
|
|
- Added `isSecureRequest(request)` helper that checks `x-forwarded-proto: https` header (for HTTPS proxies like sslip.io) in addition to `NODE_ENV === 'production'` to determine the `Secure` cookie flag.
|
|
- Exported `SESSION_COOKIE_NAME`, `SESSION_COOKIE_MAX_AGE`, and `getSessionCookieOptions()` from `auth.ts` so the route handler can set cookies on the response with consistent options.
|
|
- `createSession()` now accepts an optional `secure` parameter.
|
|
|
|
- **Excessive GET /api/auth 401 polling fix** (`src/app/page.tsx`):
|
|
- Added a `useRef(false)` guard (`hasCheckedRef`) to the auth-check `useEffect` so it only fires once per component lifecycle, preventing duplicate or repeated calls.
|
|
|
|
- **Rate limit increase** (`src/lib/rate-limit.ts` + `src/app/api/auth/route.ts`):
|
|
- Auth POST rate limit: 20 → 30 req/min.
|
|
- Auth GET rate limit: 60 → 120 req/min (in both the `RATE_LIMITS.authGet` preset and the inline `checkRateLimit` call in the GET handler).
|
|
- Added `authGet` preset to `RATE_LIMITS` for future use.
|
|
|
|
- **Better error handling** (`src/app/api/auth/route.ts`):
|
|
- POST catch block now distinguishes Zod validation errors, Prisma/database errors, and generic errors, returning specific messages and status codes.
|
|
- GET catch block now includes the error message in the response body for debugging.
|
|
- Error logs use `Auth POST error:` and `Auth GET error:` prefixes for easier log filtering.
|
|

Performed comprehensive QA check of the CompetenceTrack application at http://localhost:3000. Found and fixed a critical bug in the GDPR data export API endpoint. All other features verified working correctly.

### 1. What Works Correctly
|
|
|
|
- **Auth page**: Loads correctly at `/`, renders `AuthView` component with demo login buttons
|
|
- **Demo login**: All three demo accounts (admin, teacher, student) work correctly:

|
- `demo@competencetrack.org` → SCHOOL_ADMIN (Anna Müller)
|
|
- `demo.teacher@competencetrack.org` → TEACHER (Max Lehrer)
|
|
- `demo.student@competencetrack.org` → STUDENT (Lena Schüler)
|
|
- **Dashboard API**: Returns classes overview, recent entries, notifications (200 OK)
|
|
- **Classes API**: Returns 2 classes (3a, 3b) with student counts and teacher associations
|
|
- **Students API**: Returns all students with enrollment data
|
|
- **Assessments API**: Returns existing assessments with class/subject info
|
|
- **Competitions API**: Returns empty competitions list (correct for demo data)

- **Notebooks API**: Returns notebooks list (1 notebook for student user)
|

- **Assessments scratch pad**: Scratch pad button and Sheet component with DrawingCanvas present in `assessments-view.tsx`

- **Settings GDPR/Datenschutz tab**: Full privacy tab with DSGVO compliance, data export, and account deletion present in `settings-view.tsx`

### 2. What Had Errors (FIXED)
|
|
|
|
- **GDPR Data Export API** (`/api/gdpr-export`) — **500 Internal Server Error** for ALL users
|
|
- **Root cause**: Multiple Prisma field name mismatches between the route code and the actual Prisma schema
|
|
- **Fixes applied** to `src/app/api/gdpr-export/route.ts`:
|
|
1. `entity: true` → `entityType: true` (AuditLog model has `entityType`, not `entity`)
|
|
2. `createdAt: true` → `timestamp: true` (AuditLog model has `timestamp`, not `createdAt`)
|
|
3. `orderBy: { createdAt: 'desc' }` → `orderBy: { timestamp: 'desc' }` (AuditLog ordering)
|
|
4. `read: true` → `isRead: true` (Notification model has `isRead`, not `read`)
|
|
5. `level: true` → `masteryLevelValue: true` (LearningProgressEntry has `masteryLevelValue`, not `level`)
|
|
6. `comment: true` → `note: true` (LearningProgressEntry has `note`, not `comment`)
|
|
7. `{ type: true, status: true, createdAt: true }` → `{ period: true, status: true, generatedAt: true }` (Report model has `period`/`generatedAt`, not `type`/`createdAt`)
|
|
8. `where: { userId }` → `where: { teacherId: userId }` (TeacherNote has `teacherId`, not `userId`)
|
|
9. `where: { createdById: userId }` → `where: { teacherId: userId }` (Homework has `teacherId`, not `createdById`)
|
|
10. `where: { email: user.email, deletedAt: null }` → `where: { firstName: user.firstName, lastName: user.lastName, schoolId: user.schoolId ?? undefined, deletedAt: null }` (Student model has no `email` field)
|
|
11. `gender: true` removed from Student select (Student model has no `gender` field)
|
|
12. `level: true` → `masteryLevelValue: true` in Student's `learningProgressEntries` select
|
|
13. `comment: true` → `note: true` in Student's `learningProgressEntries` select
|
|
14. `comment: true` → `note: true` in Student's `assessmentResults` select
|
|
15. `createdAt: true` + `orderBy: { createdAt: 'desc' }` removed from `assessmentResults` (AssessmentResult has no `createdAt` field)
|
|
16. `where: { userId }` → `where: { parentId: userId }` (ParentStudentLink has `parentId`, not `userId`)
|
|
- After fixes: GDPR export returns 200 OK for both teacher and student accounts
|
|
|
|
### 3. What Needs Attention (Not Critical)
|
|
|
|
- **Student-User link gap**: The Student and User models are separate entities with no direct foreign key link. The GDPR export uses name matching (firstName + lastName + schoolId) to find the student record, which is unreliable. The demo student user has lastName "Schüler" while the student record has "Schmidt" — no match is found. This means the `studentData` section is empty in the GDPR export for demo accounts. A proper User→Student link field should be added to the schema.

|
- **400 responses are expected**: Some API endpoints require query parameters (e.g., `attendance?classGroupId=`, `competence-flower?studentId=`, `curriculum-standards?schoolId=`) and return 400 when called without them — this is correct behavior.
|
|
|
|
### 4. Mobile Responsiveness
|
|
|
|
- **Sidebar**: Uses `collapsible="icon"` mode — collapses to icon-only sidebar on desktop, uses Sheet overlay on mobile (< 768px via `useIsMobile` hook)
|
|
- **SidebarProvider**: Uses `min-h-svh` (small viewport height) ensuring full-height layout
|
|
- **Footer**: Uses `mt-auto` in a flex column layout, which correctly pushes it to the bottom
|
|
- **Responsive classes**: Header uses `sm:` prefix for responsive text, footer uses `sm:inline`/`sm:hidden` for version info
|
|
- **Content area**: Uses `p-4 md:p-6` for responsive padding
|
|
|
|
### 5. Build Status
|
|
|
|
- `next build` completes successfully with no errors
|
|
- All 89 static pages generated
|
|
- No TypeScript compilation errors
|
|
- No build warnings
|
